The recent abduction of a 55-year-old crypto investor in Hong Kong has raised concerns about the rising number of crypto-related crimes in the city. The victim was attacked by four men with a stun gun while riding in a car with her husband. The suspects, who are still at large, reportedly abducted the woman in connection to a HK$15 million crypto investment dispute. The incident highlights the potential dangers faced by individuals involved in the crypto industry, as disputes over digital asset investments can escalate into violent crimes.

Police Investigation

After receiving a report from the victim’s husband, the police were able to locate the woman in Ta Kwu Ling, about 4.3 miles away from the crime scene. The captors, described as being between the ages of 30 and 50, released the woman roughly an hour after abducting her. Both the victim and her husband sustained injuries during the ordeal, with the woman suffering minor arm and leg injuries, while her husband had wounds on his head, neck, and limbs. The police are treating the case as unlawful detention and assault.

Previous Crypto-Related Crimes

This recent abduction incident is not an isolated case in Hong Kong. The city has been experiencing a surge in crypto crimes, with many incidents stemming from financial disputes over digital asset investments. In a previous incident, a 19-year-old was rescued by the police after being subjected to threats and brutal assault by three teenagers over a dispute involving $23,000 in crypto trading profits. While three of the suspects were arrested at the crime scene, the police are still searching for the remaining six individuals involved in the attack.
