OpenSea, a popular NFT marketplace, has recently introduced a new initiative known as the “Get Based” series. This series aims to showcase artists creating on Coinbase’s Base network, which is an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution. By highlighting the works of these artists, OpenSea hopes to promote the Base network and support creators within this ecosystem.
The “Get Based” series will feature up to 15 artists throughout the summer, with the first drop in the series showcasing a reimagined artwork of the iconic “Endless Summer” film by Carty Sewill, an artist and OpenSea employee. Other confirmed artists participating in the series include Jhekub, Hun, Cryptic Poet, Yiying Lu, Subwway, and Thank You Base God. These artists bring a diverse range of styles and creations to the series, offering open edition NFTs priced at $5 or less, with some even being free.
In recent months, OpenSea has been placing increased emphasis on Coinbase’s Base network as opposed to popular layer-1 chains like Ethereum mainnet or Solana. Base represents an emerging chain that is still in the process of building high-value collections. By featuring artists on the Ethereum L2 network, OpenSea aims to introduce collectors to the Base network and provide support to artists operating within this ecosystem.
OpenSea enables users to bridge assets to Base and make purchases using fiat currency and credit cards through a MoonPay integration. The “Get Based” series will coincide with Base’s “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, commencing on June 3. This promotion offers over 600 ETH in prizes, incentives, and gas credits across various projects and protocols, aiming to boost engagement within the Base network.
By creating accessible entry points for collectors and showcasing talented artists, the “Get Based” series from OpenSea seeks to foster broader expansion and growth within the Base network.
